Abstract


This study investigated the factors influencing career decision-making self-efficacy in dental hygiene students, and to provide a reference base to improve career decision-making self-efficacy. A self-administered questionnaire survey was conducted among 213 dental hygiene students from July 22 to August 9, 2019. The participants were attending a college located in North Gyeongsang Province, and were enrolled in a three-year college of study.The grand mean and the standard deviation of the subjects' career decision-making self-efficacy was 83.35 ¡¾ 10.89 points. The score on career decision-making self-efficacy was significantly higher in the groups with 4.0 GPA, with satisfied interpersonal relationship, with high satisfaction on major, with high satisfaction on clinical practice. Career decision-making self-efficacy had a significant positive correlation with major satisfaction and clinical practice satisfaction and factors affecting career decision-making self-efficacy in the subjects were major satisfaction and clinical practice satisfaction. The explained variables was calculated 32%. Investigation into and development of educational career guidance programs, including a variety of career counseling-related curriculums and special lectures are warranted by considering the variables suitable for the characteristics of dental hygiene students to help improve career decision-making self-efficacy.
